It's important to be precise here. Your CREB bonds are general, unsecured obligations of the issuer. They are not backed by specific pledged assets, and they're not FDIC insured.
The money you invest is lent out through loans that are secured by first liens on U.S. real estate, at conservative loan-to-value ratios. Part of the portfolio is held in U.S. Treasuries and cash. These assets generate the income that supports interest on your bonds and help preserve capital.
If CREB faced financial difficulty, bondholders would not have a direct claim on any specific property. Read the risk factors in the offering circular.
CREB bonds are investments, not bank deposits. They are not FDIC insured, and you could lose money, including principal.
