Why does CREB need to verify my identity?

October 27, 2026

Like banks and brokerages, CREB must confirm the identity of every investor. This is required by federal anti-money-laundering and know-your-customer rules.

What we ask for

  • Your legal name, date of birth and address
  • Your Social Security number
  • Sometimes a photo ID, if your details can't be verified automatically

How your data is protected

Verification runs through Plaid, a widely used financial data provider, and your information is encrypted. Verification also protects you: it makes it much harder for someone to open an account or withdraw money in your name.
